Elevator Preventative Maintenance

VPL Preventative Maintenance

  • Test under pan sensor switches
  • Test door and gate lock contacts (the lift should not run unless the door or gate is closed and locked)
  • Check Gal Interlock System (the lift should not move if any one of the doors is not closed and locked and the lift should not move beyond the door zone usually less than 4 inches away from the landing in either direction if the door is not locked. Hold the door locked by using the interlock key
  • Test emergency stop switch
  • Check operation of the back nut switch
  • Check operation of the load switch. (lower the platform to the ground using the hand crank in order to release the load on the main nut. The lift should not run up until you restore the load on the main nut by moving the platform up with the hand crank
  • Test final limit switch
  • Test up relays (make sure none of them are stuck in the activated position by reading continuity through a N.O. contact
  • Check for loose fastening devices
  • Inspect chains
  • Inspect connecting links
  • Inspect chain pulleys and shaft
  • Inspect chain tensioners
  • Inspect cylinder head cotter pins, cracks, welds
  • Inspect rollers
  • Test up relays to make sure one of them is not stuck in the activated position and check continuity of N.O. contacts
  • Check safety brake
  • Check for oil leaks
  • Check battery fluid level

IPL Preventative Maintenance

  • Test under pan sensor switches
  • Test flap sensitive switches
  • Test platform position switch (folded/unfolded)
  • Test arm position switches
  • Test seat position switch
  • Clean bus lines
  • Inspect chain or steel cable for wear and tension
  • Inspect connecting links
  • Check fastening of motor and deflecting pulleys
  • Check rail anchors
  • Test slack cable switch
  • Test final limit switch
  • Check rollers, lubricate if noisy
  • Test footrest and carriage
  • Test emergency stop switch
  • Lubricate rack with white lithium grease
  • Test up and down relays (make sure of them are stuck in the activated position by reading continuity through a N.O. contact

Porch Lift Preventative Maintenance

  • Test under pan sensor switches
  • Test door and gate lock contacts (the lift should not run unless the door or gate is closed and locked)
  • Test emergency stop switch
  • Check operation and alignment of the Up final limit switch (activate by hand)
  • Check operation of the back nut switch
  • Check operation of the load switch. (Lower the platform to the ground using the hand crank in order to release the load on the main nut. The lift should not run up until you restore the load on the main nut by moving the platform up with the hand crank
  • Test final limit switch
  • Test Up relays (make sure none of them are stuck in the activated position by reading continuity through a N.O. contact
  • Check fastening devices for looseness

Stair Lift Preventative Maintenance

  • Test  swivel seat switches
  • Test foot rest and carriage sensor switches
  • Test emergency stop switch
  • Lubricate rack with white lithium grease
  • Test top and bottom final limit switches
  • Visually inspection of rack and gear
